Bill Gates talks with PKU students on `Success and Responsibility`
Bill Gates visited Peking University (PKU) on the morning of June 11 and talked with over 300 students on `Success and Responsibility`. Professor SUN Qixiang, Dean of School of Economics, hosted the meeting.
His speech at PKU was his first open speech in China since he has served as a full-time co-chair of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Mr. Gates mentioned in his speech that he used to think that software development changes the world, but now he paid more attention on equal healthcare for everyone and he hoped that more people would have a better life with the help of charity foundation. He particularly mentioned the Grand Challenges Explorations program which is worth 100 million dollars aiming at exploring and discovering breakthrough innovation ideas to cope major diseases and health problems of developing countries.
During the Q&A session, students posed questions on `how to participate in charity with limited capital`, `would the next Bill Gates occur in Asia`, `would Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation support basic education in China`s poor areas`, `how to make seemingly impossible dreams come true`, etc. Bill Gates gave them satisfactory answers. Meanwhile, he suggested young people to treasure their study opportunities, and told them that the key factor of success is to try their best in everything.
As an honorary trustee of PKU, Bill Gates was invited to visit PKU every year and communicate with its students on a certain topic to share life experience and encourage youth growth.
