Arthur Charpentier is a professor at Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). His research interests include risk and insurance, fairness and discrimination, statistics and machine learning, mathematical economics, and climate risks. He is also a visiting professor at Kyoto University.

These lectures explore the relationship between artificial intelligence and insurance. They begin from the observation that insurance has long relied on prediction, classification, and decision-making under uncertainty, well before the recent rise of AI. AI therefore does not introduce these issues from scratch, but changes their scale, granularity, and practical consequences. The lectures review the insurance foundations of pricing and pooling, then examine the main challenges raised by AI, including personalization, selection, causality, bias, fairness, governance, and trust. They finally turn to the concrete uses of AI across the insurance value chain, emphasizing that a good system should not be judged by accuracy alone, but also by its calibration, its fairness, and its ability to support real decisions in practice.

Fabrice Kämpfen is a tenured Assistant Professor at the School of Economics at University College Dublin (UCD). He is broadly trained health economist with research interests focused on innovative topics in health economics, population health and aging. An important innovation of his research has been the expansion of aging research beyond well-studied high-income countries, with a novel focus on low-and middle-income contexts. His findings have been published in various top-field academic journals and advertised in major news outlets, including the New York Times and the Hindu.

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) impose large health and economic burdens, yet we know relatively little about how health information affects outcomes beyond the individual. Using data from the China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS), we study whether warning individuals about high blood pressure (BP) generates spillovers within families. Exploiting clinical thresholds that trigger BP warnings, we implement regression discontinuity designs, including a semi-parametric multidimensional approach, to identify causal effects. We find no evidence that receiving a warning affects individuals' own BP. In contrast, we estimate large and asymmetric spillovers: warning a man reduces his wife's systolic BP by 9-10 mmHg and lowers her probability of hypertension by up to 24% points after about 2.5 years, with no comparable effects from women to men. We also find intergenerational spillovers, with parental warnings reducing adult children's systolic BP by 5-6 mmHg, driven primarily by fathers. Taken together, these results suggest that the benefits of screening may be substantially underestimated when intra-household spillovers are ignored.

乔洪武，武汉大学经济与管理学院二级教授，武汉大学人文社会科学院驻院研究员。1982年毕业于武汉水利电力学院，获工学学士学位；1985年毕业于北京电科院，获工学硕士学位；1998年毕业于武汉大学经济学院，获经济学博士学位。长期聚焦于近现代西方经济伦理思想史研究，出版了专著《现代经济学的开山鼻祖——亚当·斯密》、《正谊谋利——近代西方经济伦理思想研究》和《西方经济伦理思想研究》(三卷本)，主持教育部哲学社会科学研究重大招标攻关项目“西方经济伦理思想研究”和国家社会科学基金项目多项，发表论文数十篇。《西方经济伦理思想研究》(三卷本)，获得中国经济学最高奖：第十八届孙冶方经济科学著作奖。
